Professor Jari Turunen
Professor Jari Turunen received his Dr. Tech. degree from Helsinki University of Technology in 1990, then joined the staff of Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh for three years. He moved to University of Joensuu in 1994 to establish a new research group in micro-optics, first as a Professor of optoelectronics and, since 2000, Professor of physics. In 2005-2010 he held the post of Academy Professor. He has published about 220 peer-reviewed papers, chaired several conferences, and lectured a range of courses on diffraction, coherence, polarization, and other wave phenomena in optics, as well as on optical design, micro- and nanophotonics, and fundamental astronomy. He is a fellow of EOS and acted a Topical Editor of JOSA A in 2004-2009.
